Barbara began painting in 1987 at the Centre for Aboriginal Artists
in Alice Springs. Her distinctive works is about her traditional country
in the Gibson Desert, with many of her works depicting ‘Puli’ rock
formation and ‘Tuli’ sand hills of the country, telling women’s ceremonial
stories that relate to the formation of the natural environment around Tjukurla. This area is dominated by expansive sand hills and rock holes
that contain water and often places where bush food can be found
growing.
Other works by Barbara include the ‘minyma’ stories (women’s sacred
stories) - narratives detailing the role of the woman as healers and
providers in Ngaanyatjarra society.
